If you guys are still trying to get organized with the EE stuff, I made this spreadsheet for myself to keep track of deadlines. If you want to, go ahead and make a copy to personalize (supervisor name, personal deadlines, etc). The colorblocks on the side are a key for fill colors when you complete a checkpoint/task. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_Ws70nmisQGjXX9DU5ngr0QPPx687N7Xu4FlG66HQPE/edit?usp=sharing

my ee supervisor read my email about what topics i might want to do, said "reviewing these rn... i will have deep profound thoughts shortly" and its been 7 hours
I just looked at Abby Murray’s and hers was “Does movement or physical activity improve the
mental and physical well being of patients with Juvenile Arthritis?”
you put in jacket because cold, you go outside, you walk, you get to sto, you get your sto, you leave sto, you go home, you get home, you take off jacket, play among us
i think i have around 7 so far but it really depends on what you’re writing. my paper is mainly backed by data analysis so i’m gonna end up with quite a few
while i understand the summer reading is so that we can like. discuss the material or whatever immediately i think its cruel to assign three books and three essays and site work on top of all of the ias and ee
the summer between jr and sr year for most people is like “let me work more hours and build up money, get ready for college apps, and have fun with my friends”
11:40
for ib kids it’s a full semester of work packed into three months
yeah!! if you're getting hard-locked out of any articles, make sure to just do a regular google search of the title and author!! you might find it on jstor or someplace like that for free
The first pirate website in the world to open mass and public access to tens of millions research papers
23:30
literally all you do is plug in the url or DOI of the article you want to read and it just. spits it out for you. for free
23:31
ALSO!!! if you are on a computer there's a program called zotero you can use to organize and download your sources (it's free btw and works on mac and windows)
23:31
thats what im using rn and it lets you tag your sources so you can find them easily later and automatically spits out a citation for you(edited)
Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share research.
23:34
actually let me just do this
23:37
resources for writing the EE!!
ibo official extended essay guide (http://isob.ukw.edu.pl/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/extended-essay-guide-first-exams-2018.pdf) - literally just the official guide from ib on how to write the EE. includes a rubric and things like that... i think we looked over this in tok
google scholar (https://scholar.google.com) - used to find articles, academic journals, etc... generally just a good place to start looking for sources
sci-hub (https://sci-hub.se/) - used to unlock paywalled articles (hopefully it's unblocked on school wifi but i'll check tomorrow!)
libgen (https://libgen.rs/) - used to find books for free! you can also search for books so you might want to do this if you're worried about getting book sources
zotero (https://www.zotero.org/) - program for organizing your sources/citations!! (downloadable on mac/windows/linux - unfortunately not available for chromebooks/phones)(edited)
i gotta say though it was hilarious that harrison was like Yeah if you miss the deadline nothing will really happen other than your supervisor will nag you
- intro/personal connection
- formatting in general
- table of contents (basically a really shitty outline)
- more research probably depending on what i put in my outline
- basically just getting ready to go ham on this paper over the next few days
19:03
godspeed exie
19:03
and i know some of you might be reading this and thinking "Ryann. why didnt you do this over the summer. what's wrong with you."
but yeah ummm the reason why i didnt do it over the summer is because i just did not have the mental capacity to do anything related to school my brain was just so fried constantly
1
19:04
and it wasnt even because of anything in particular i was just. not in a good place mentally
19:04
LOOOOOL
19:04
i mean at least i got my history ia draft 2 done...? and my third draft... Sorta
19:05
i wish my brain worked properly
19:06
i would have LOVED to get all my shit done over the summer but like. in my head it just doesnt feel that simple at all
19:06
sorry im kind of going off on a tangent ill stop now

i highly enjoy this! the personal interest is evident, and you established a pretty good foundation for where the idea comes from, but the only thing i'd have to say is to write a bit about content at the end of the intro, which is undoubtedly easier when it's done and you can just vaguely summarize

shoutout to when hayley was peer editing my this i believe essay and i had so many sentences that were just so long with either no commas or too many commas for no reason
just finished reading it!! i think it's really awesome :] nothing really stood out to me gramatically (other than some of the sentences but gabe is already on that) so you're good on that front for sure
i have no extenuating circumstances but deadlines are just a suggestion at this point

20:20
i am not writing 2500 words before the end of tonight. its okay
20:21
i think the reason why i'm like this is because we aren't like getting graded on this necessarily and the only consequence of turning it in late is possibly being badgered by my supervisor/harrison
well she told me that all i had to do to improve mine was add a bibliography so... i think im good?
01:45
i had a meeting with her pretty early but she was like "ryann yours is the best paper ive read thus far" but i dont know if she was just saying that or if she was being serious
01:46
If she was being serious. um. i sat down and bullshitted through that entire paper in the span of 2 hours right after i woke up so i dont know how that happened
if anyone is sitting here either today or tomorrow and is thinking “gee, i really want to help exie right now” or “reading a mess of an ee and giving advice sounds like my cup of tea”, i’m pretty sure i’m writing my ee wrong and i am in desperate need of advice. if you can’t i totally get it, but i will take as many people who are willing. @everyone
18:52
also i will not be at school tomorrow, going to spend the whole day working on my ee
This shit was such a pain in the ass and contributed to my awful mental health in the worst ways possible. however because i literally wrote my paper in the field im going into in college if it comes back with a good score i am going to exploit the shit out of this for brownie points with my college professors and beyond (maybe)
my ee drained the soul out of me for like 3 months then i forgot about it then it drained my soul for a week then it was over . i wish it well . it was a good piece of writing, i’m proud of it, and it has everything to do with what i want to do in the future. it killed me for a little while but it was a labor of love and i dont regret any of my sweat and tears and human sacrifices to satan that i put into finishing it FUCK that paper THANK GOD its over.
i literally didn’t think i was capable of doing it and i worked on it for four days straight. i learned some crazy things like:
- ronald reagan invited spielberg to the white house to show ET when it came out and then after it finished turned to him and said something along the lines of “you and i are one of the few people in this world who knows that everything that happened in that movie was true”
- there was a group of cuban punks who purposefully injected themselves with aids as a form of protest
about the process: i didn’t think i would survive it and im not exaggerating. it made me reassess my self worth and my functionality as a student. top 5 worst things i’ve gone through and that’s saying A Lot. unbearable amounts of pressure and stress, ruined some Things in my life that i wish i still had. paper didn’t even turn out very good.

hipsley literally was like “so gabe do you want me to put in an incomplete for your grade so you can retake the tests?” NO, MAGINEL, I WANT TO FAIL. OBVIOUSLY.
no bc y’all don’t understand it’s atp where i’m worried i won’t walk
23:20
like i’m not concerned about it (bc i’m not concerned about anything) but mccraney has been trying to catch me in the halls and that’s never a good sign
gabe >:)
no bc y’all don’t understand it’s atp where i’m worried i won’t walk
dude i don’t know if we told the spanish kids but when i was explaining the cake thing to arcuri she was like Ugh why does hipsley do anything that she does so it is CLEAR to me that there is already some resentment there. we can exploit this
that essay... i am genuinely so proud of my ee and the work that i did but that had to have been one of the craziest and most intense experiences of my life trying to get all of that done and writing it cohesively And academically. I spent i think actually 16 hours straight writing when i ended up finishing it and i am so glad it's done. from what i've seen we all put our foot forward and did some work to create a product and now 23 products are done and ready to be ripped apart by academics across the fucking globe. it is almost done. we are almost done. then we can light it all ablaze and watch the ruins burn and crumble :33 so ready to see it all burn. idk if you've picked up on it yet but i fucking LOVE fire metaphors because of dark souls 3 now
I did 90% of my EE in regs’ during our WW2 unit I already knew and it was fine - not too bad for me. My best paper yet I would argue. Very proud and happy to have it done
